The Westfire Stair Parts 7023 Level Quarter-Turn is a high-quality, Amish-crafted stair fitting designed to facilitate a seamless 90-degree turn in a handrail system, specifically tailored for use with round handrails, such as the 6040 Wall Rail profile. This component is an essential part of Westfire’s extensive catalog of stair parts, reflecting their commitment to durability, craftsmanship, and aesthetic versatility.
Design and Purpose:
The 7023 Level Quarter-Turn is engineered to provide a smooth, secure transition in a level handrail run where a change in direction is required without the use of a newel post. It is commonly employed to return a handrail into a wall or to connect two straight sections of railing at a right angle, ensuring both functionality and safety. This fitting is particularly suited for round handrail profiles, offering a cohesive and polished look to staircases or hallway railings.
Materials and Construction:
Crafted by Amish artisans in the USA, the 7023 Level Quarter-Turn exemplifies meticulous attention to detail and superior woodworking standards. It is available in a variety of wood species, allowing for customization to match specific design preferences or existing décor. Popular options include:
  • Poplar: A cost-effective, paint-grade wood with a smooth finish. Can be stained or painted.
  • Red Oak: Known for its strength and prominent grain, ideal for staining.
  • White Oak: Offers a refined grain pattern and durability.
  • Mahogany: A rich, luxurious wood with a deep color tone.
  • Walnut: Provides a dark, elegant finish with a sophisticated appeal.
Each piece is constructed to be free from defects in material and workmanship, aligning with Westfire Manufacturing’s limited warranty standards. The fitting is designed to integrate seamlessly with the corresponding handrail, ensuring a snug and stable connection.
Compatibility:
The 7023 Level Quarter-Turn is compatible with the 6040 Wall Rail, a flat-bottomed, or full round-profiles handrail measuring 1-1/2" (1500), 1-3/4" (1750), 1-7/8" (1780), and 2" (2000) Diameters. This compatibility ensures a precise fit, enhancing both the structural integrity and visual continuity of the railing system. The fitting can also be adapted to other round handrail profiles with similar dimensions, depending on the manufacturer’s specifications.
Installation
This quarter-turn fitting is designed for straightforward installation. It typically comes with unfinished ends that can be joined to the handrail using rail bolt kits and matching wood plugs, which are included. These accessories allow for a secure and flush connection, concealing the hardware for a clean, professional finish. Installers should ensure proper alignment and fastening to maintain safety and stability, adhering to standard stair-building codes.
Features and Benefits
  • Safety and Stability: The 7023 Level Quarter-Turn provides a reliable connection point, ensuring the handrail remains a sturdy support for users.
  • Aesthetic Versatility: Available in multiple wood species, it can be stained, painted, or finished to complement any interior style, from traditional to contemporary.
  • Amish Craftsmanship: Handcrafted in the USA, it reflects a heritage of quality and precision, appealing to those who value artisanal products.
  • Warranty: Backed by Westfire’s limited warranty, it is guaranteed against defects, with options for exchange or credit if issues arise, provided it is used correctly.
Availability and Shipping:
Offered through Westfire Stair Parts, the 7023 Level Quarter-Turn may be in stock for immediate shipping (2-3 days) in popular wood species like Poplar or Red Oak, while others, such as Mahogany or Walnut, might require a lead time of up to 2-3 weeks. Shipping originates from the Holmes' warehouse, typically in Holmesville, Ohio, with freight terms F.O.B. If credit is established, freight charges are prepaid and added to the invoice; otherwise, customers are responsible for shipping costs, including any cancellations mid-transit.
Applications:
The 7023 Level Quarter-Turn is ideal for residential or commercial settings where a handrail requires a 90-degree turn on a level plane. Common uses include:
  • Wall-mounted handrails in hallways or corridors.
  • Staircase landings where the railing shifts direction.
  • Open-plan interiors needing a continuous handrail without vertical supports.
In summary, the Westfire Stair Parts 7023 Level Quarter-Turn is a beautifully crafted, functional component that enhances the safety and elegance of any handrail system. Its robust construction, customizable wood options, and precise engineering make it a standout choice for stair builders and homeowners alike.
