Stair Caps
Stair caps are prefabricated wood stair covers that fit over existing stairs. False end treads, or tread savers and risers, give the appearance of solid treads without the expense.
There are two types of stair caps: tread end caps and tread wall caps.
Tread end caps are placed on the open side of stairs, usually where balusters will be placed. Tread wall caps go on the closed side of the staircase against the wall. To create the most convincing solid-looking stair tread, false tread stair caps can be used on both sides of a staircase. You can also use only tread end caps under the balusters and carpet to the wall. Decide whether you’d like to use solid stair caps or veneered ones.
End Treads and Stair Risers
The combining of the tread nosing and cove into a single moulded piece creates the same dimension as solid wood bullnosed treads trimmed with a 3/4” cove mold. With our false end stair tread kit, stair tread plates are 1/2” hardwood veneers, which can sit on top of the existing framed treads.
This allows carpet padding and carpet to butt or roll up to it, giving the appearance of solid hardwood treads below the carpet. These are used in custom homes as well as simple remodeling projects.
